Miguel Rio Branco /// Photography and painting First and foremost I think that I have always been an observer. And I still am, but also a critical transformer, given that what I observe is never shown as only a document, but rather as a construction made with images, whether photographic or not. Even in painting at the beginning the elements were put together and juxtaposed in order to create the works. In relation to the use of photography, even is some photographs may have their own identity and strength, from the beginning there has always been a concern to form sets, whether linear ones or not. Painting, music and the cinema were my influences and my background. The history of photography was something that I only started to get to know better in the eighties. That is, the idea of photography as something separate from the other visual arts was never something that seemed sensible to me. |
