Virginia Torrente /// Caio Reisewitz. Five senses Whenever we travel, our five senses – and not only vision – are put on alert and become receptive to all that is new. Our gaze lingers intently on everything. The photographer is a naturally and instinctively curious person. He searches, nonstop. In fact, he seems endowed with a sixth sense that drives him to those places he wishes to portray. The new pictures of Mamángua by Caio Reisewitz feature a velvety light, a cloudy environment that takes in and appeals to the spectator in powerful manner. These places, which we know exist in Brazil, are shrouded in intangible realism – a mystery of Asian-like gentleness. They are places that we have visited via the photographer’s lens; that we have perceived as dreams, that constitute not only a space but also a time with unforgettable characteristics, involving other sorts of perception that are not merely visual, but also nearly tactile. |
