Gary Hill y Maurice Blanchot. Dialogues at the Threshold

Gary Hill has always understood video art as a way of 'thinking aloud'. In fact, we could characterize his work by the undeniable vocation of the image as a means of discovery; a place where even a limit experience is outlined, more than a space in which to tell stories, in which to develop a narrative sense. Likewise, in Hill one can also perceive a strong conception of the procedural and indefinite sense that the artistic experience adopts, insofar as the piece takes on a reality precisely of process or in process. Equivalent in this to a kind of linguistic opening in which the work sprouts from a maximum proximity to the procedure of thought. It is not about, however, a static and closed reality, comprised of some very precise endings and directed towards a concrete unity, for example, in the expressing of an idea or a thesis. The internal operation itself of the work or the text, as well as the relationships –at times confusing, difficult, twisted– which it establishes with the world and the receiver, eliminate any possibility in this direction.(...)
