Fernando Castro Flórez ///

Strange Places. Some Minimal Considerations around the Latest Work by Baltazar Torres.

Zizek has pointed out that among the antagonisms that characterise our period there is perhaps some key correspondence to be found in the antagonism between abstraction, which is more and more a determining factor in our lives and the flooding of pseudo-concrete images. Baltazar Torres in no way avoids the banal contemporary landscape, but, much to the contrary, populates it with figures. I have previously pointed out that this artist has developed a work which admirably brings together oblique political critique (that is, outside the rhetoric of the closed groups) and an extremely ironic reflection on the subject. "Since his first works there has been a denouncing of a taste for accumulation, for storing or stockpiling, particularly of ideas".
