Paulo Reis /// The Logic of Cultural Difference in Ângela Ferreira

The thesis that capitalism and democracy form the culmination of the history of humanity is that held by the historian Francis Fukuyama. In order to make his ideas convincing he undertakes a Herculean effort of analytical studying of history reworking the ideas of Plato, Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche and Marx. At the end of his extensive research, he points out that capitalism is primarily responsible for the downfall of the non-democratic systems, ranging from the National Socialism, which split the XX century into two, to the Soviet communism that ended it. In his oblique observation of the different realities of the global community, Fukuyama concludes that western liberal democracy has become set as the final solution for human government, thus signifying the end of the history of humanity.
