Rubens Mano /// BETWEEN THE IMAGE AND THE SPACE Articulations between image and space, and more specifically photography and architecture, are accentuated when we understand that the dynamics of the production of images may be incorporated in the processes of construction of spaces, or vice-versa. As dwellers of major urban centres, we are relatively familiarized with the mechanisms of alteration of the landscape. However, faced with the speeds achieved inside major cities, some aspects seem to be further and further removed from our daily lives, indicating to us how distant we are, or we think we are, from a more direct action on the spaces of the city. In general we reflect very little on the way we contribute towards the constitution of places, as we are used to their apparent structural rules. Yet some artistic proposal carried out in the scope of the public sphere, in which space and time are seen as open and multiple categories, are capable of affecting our awareness of the role we play in a determined context – pointing towards a correspondence between the transformation of the cities and the way we perceive and “activate” this environment. |
