Pedro Gomes. Body, Paper, Fire

Estarei Sempre Contigo [I will always be with you], 1995 (various different tubes and metal brackets, 30 x 150 x 150cm), is a sculptural body that Pedro Gomes exhibited, along with drawings from the series Habitar [Inhabit], 1996 (ball pen on paper, 120 x 160cm) at the First Sete Artistas Ao Décimo Mês [Seven Artists in the Seventh Month] Exhibition (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Modern Arts Centre, 1996). If there is a reference at the beginning of this text to the artist’s presence at this group showing, the reference point of which was that of bringing together young people who had never had any solo exhibition, this is because both I will always be with you and the several Sem Título [Untitled] in Inhabit still remain as initial references in his curriculum. In this body of electrical cables and entangled tubes of several different colours, held tight by metal brackets, and in that coloured mesh made by the ink of the ball point there is a common operating system.
